Dangerous Calling: A Filmmaker’s Journey

Jeremiah and Josh Daws, the brother duo behind Dangerous Calling
This week marks the end of a three year journey. My brother and I began writing Dangerous Calling in January of 2007. At the time, we were doing a lot of video production for churches and ministries. Just a month before, we had lost our biggest client. This client accounted for 75% of our business. So as you can imagine, it was a huge blow. We were discouraged and frustrated because we didn’t know what to do or where to go. At the time, we looked at it as a huge negative.
But now, I couldn’t be more thankful. It was because of this incredible gift that we decided to finally make the leap and direct our first feature film. Our desire was to make films anyway. It’s so easy as a filmmaker to get stuck in a “day job” that is like making films but isn’t. So when presented with a lot of free time, we decided to go for it.

Along the way, we had many ups and downs. We had actors back out, locations fall through, and other frustrations that I can’t elaborate on. But the one thing that I am sure of is that God was at work the entire time. Every time a negative happened, it ALWAYS turned out to be for the best. Romans 8:28 was illustrated before our very eyes on a daily basis.
“And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.”
Now don’t misunderstand me. The production was extremely stressful. My brother and I describe the production process as a dream come true and our worst nightmare all at once. We were getting to do what we had always wanted to do but God was allowing elements beyond our control to go a little off the plan. And I know why – God wanted us to lean on Him the entire time.
Dangerous Calling will be released in major retailers this week. It was a long road but we are so very thankful to have a film under our belts. But even more so, I’m thankful for the stretching and growing that I went through over these last three years. I wouldn’t trade that for anything.
